PlayStation Plus annual subscription plans are now costlier in India. This comes after the global announcement the Japanese giant made late last month. Unlike the global price hike (by roughly up to Rs 3,300), the annual subscription’s pricing in the country grew by up to Rs 2,850.

PlayStation Plus annual subscription plan prices

Following are the new prices of the PlayStation Plus annual subscription plans.

– PlayStation Plus Essential costs Rs 3,949 annually.

– PlayStation Plus Extra costs Rs 6,699 annually.

– PlayStation Plus Deluxe is priced at Rs 7,599 annually.

Previously, the PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Deluxe were priced at Rs 2,999, Rs 4,999, and Rs 5,749. That said, this new price hike takes the price by up to Rs 2,850.

For comparison, the PS Plus Essential now costs roughly Rs 6,600 for the annual plan. The Extra and Premium annual plans are priced at roughly Rs 11,150 and Rs 13,200 after the price hike.

The prices for monthly and quarterly plans remain unchanged. Following are the monthly and quarterly plans for the PS Plus membership in India.

– PlayStation Plus Essential costs Rs 499 monthly and Rs 1,199 for 3 months.

– PlayStation Plus Extra costs Rs 749 monthly and Rs 1,999 for 3 months.

– PlayStation Plus Deluxe is priced at Rs 849 monthly and Rs 2,299 for 3 months.

Although higher, the annual prices of the PlayStation Plus subscription are way more cheaper. That said, if you were using monthly or quarterly plans of PS Plus and want to continue, it’s better to get an annual subscription.

For new PlayStation gamers, Sony offers a 7-day trial for the Extra and Deluxe subscription plans. For the unversed, Deluxe is the same as Premium in the global markets, but without the ability to stream PS3 games.

All plans have their own benefits. The Essential plan gets you a collection of games every month, lets you play online in multiplayer mode, and offers you exclusive discounts. The Extra plan offers the Game Catalogue and Ubisoft+ Classics, plus everything that Essential offers. The Deluxe subscription gives access to Classic games and Game Trails. And, it also offers what Extra and Essential plans provide.

It is worth noting that not just Sony has hiked the price of its game subscription plans, but rather Microsoft also did it earlier. In fact, Sony’s price increase move seems to be a ripple effect. For Microsoft’s Game Pass, the price went from Rs 349 per month to Rs 379. For the Game Pass Ultimate plan, it went from Rs 499 per month to Rs 549 per month. For PC, it’s Rs 349 per month.

Free Fire battle royale game’s India launch has been postponed by a few more weeks, confirmed Garena in an official statement. As per schedule, the game was supposed to launch today, i.e. on September 5 on Play Store. However, now, it will arrive later and Garena has a reason for that.

The official statement reads, “We are delighted by the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from our Indian community to the announcement of the launch of Free Fire India. To ensure we can offer the best possible experience to all of our Free Fire India fans from the start, we will postpone the launch by a few more weeks.”

Further, it states, “In addition to refining the gameplay we are taking some time to fully complete our localisation of the Free Fire India experience.”

It appears that Garena has some last-minute updates to make to the game. That said, the game will arrive in the coming weeks. But the exact date is unclear. We hope we get to know the official Play Store arrival date soon.

For the uninitiated, the Indian government recommended a ban on several Chinese mobile apps including Free Fire. Now, a few weeks back, Garena, confirmed that the game’s re-launching in India. In later August, the date was announced as September 5.

The new version of the game is coming with several changes. These changes likely follow all the guidelines and offer localized content. The game is said to feature “unique content” and an in-game environment that’s safe for all gamers. The new version of the game will encourage players to take breaks after a few gaming sessions help them to not get addicted to the phone screen.

This time around, Garena has roped in the Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its face of Free Fire India. Dhoni will be a playable character in the game called ‘Thala’. Apart from the cricketer, Garena has also collaborated with other sports personalities like Sunil Chhetri, Saina Nehwal, Rahul Chaudhari, and Leander Paes.

Recently, Garena partnered with a local giant Yotta to get cloud and storage for data of Indian gamers.

“We believe our partnership with Yotta will ensure that our users can enjoy the highest quality gameplay experience and benefit from Yotta’s expertise in protecting and securing Indian user data,” stated Gang Ye, co-founder of Garena.

South Korean video game developer Krafton, the publisher behind the popular Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) game, is all set to launch more games in the coming year in India while looking for the right strategic synergy to further invest in the country. Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, said that BGMI will also have more announcements coming up for India before the Diwali festival. The company’s focus has been on developing mobile gaming titles tailored to the Indian market, according to Sohn.

“We have a few games in our publishing pipeline. I think there could be one or two games we could even launch within this year,” Sohn added during a media interaction held in New Delhi.

Since March 2021, the company has invested $140 million across 11 startups including NODWIN Gaming, Loco, Pratilipi, Kuku FM, One Impression and more. The company recently announced their commitment to invest an additional $150 million over the next 2-3 years. “BGMI is not just a game, it is also a cultural and social experience. Krafton is not looking at building views; rather, we are focused on building a community-based fan-first research,” according to Sohn. The company is also hosting a friendly India-Korea invitational match wherein BGMI will be played by 8 winning teams from BGIS and 8 Esports teams from South Korea. Krafton will also release a documentary chronicling the story and development of the ‘Indian Faction in Road To Valor: Empires’.

The move came two years after the Indian government banned Krafton’s marquee offering PUBG in the country over national security concerns. BGMI was the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, exclusively for players in the country developed and published by Krafton. The Indian government later ordered Google and Apple to block the BGMI gaming app from their respective online stores under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

On May 30 this year, the South Korean video game developer said the video game BGMI is now available for play for all users in India on both Android and iOS. The government allowed the return of the game on a three-month trial approval after the company complied with issues of server locations and data security in the country.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest competitors of BGMI, Free Fire is coming back to India on September 5. According to Garena, a brand under Singapore-based Sea, the relaunched Free Fire will feature “unique content” for Indian players, as well as prompts for players to take breaks after certain intervals. The game will also feature cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a playable character named Thala.

Sony’s first handheld gaming console, PlayStation Portal, is set for launch on November 15. Now available for pre-orders in select markets, the portable player from Sony was announced back in March as Project Q. Over the next few months until Sony’s event, the company finally came up with a name, but what was more interesting than the name was how the new console would work. Instead of being a standalone handheld gaming console, PlayStation Portal is merely an extension of your PlayStation 5 console, allowing you to stream games to a smaller, portable screen over a Wi-Fi connection.

According to an update to the blog post, the Sony PlayStation Portal will be available in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal starting November 15. The pre-orders for these markets have opened through PlayStation’s website, while those interested in pre-ordering the PlayStation Portal remote player can do that starting September 29 in the aforementioned markets, as well as Canada and Japan. Sony said the information on additional regional availability will be announced at a later date.

How PlayStation Portal works

The new Sony PlayStation Portal is nothing like the Asus ROG Ally or Nintendo Switch. Instead of acting like a standalone handheld console for gaming, the PlayStation Portal lets you only stream games from the main console to a small screen. It uses PlayStation Remote Play functionality to let you play your games anywhere as long as your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sony said the Portal needs at least 5Mbps to function, but for an optimal gaming experience, you need at least 15Mbps. Only the games installed on your PS5 console will be available for playing on PlayStation Portal. Sony said there is no support for PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming on the new console. You cannot play local media or games either.

The PlayStation Portal has an 8-inch 1080p screen, capable of running games at up to 60fps. The screen is flanked by a DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Sony says the PlayStation Portal is “the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house.”

Garena Free Fire is back in India more than a year after the battle royale title was removed from the app marketplaces and blocked by the internet service providers (ISPs) owing to national security. As part of its strategic announcement, Singapore-headquartered Sea. which is behind the Garena brand, said it is partnering with a local giant called Yotta to offer cloud and storage for the data of local users in India. Garena has also appointed cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador of the revamped version of its game in the country.

The relaunch of Free Fire comes weeks after Battlegrounds Mobile India, popularly known as BGMI, made a comeback to the Indian gaming scenario. Garena said it has localised the battle royale title to make it more suitable for the Indian audience. The game now features “unique content,” as well as an environment that will encourage a safe, healthy, and fun gameplay experience. The new version of Free Fire will encourage players to take breaks after certain intervals, which will help them focus on other aspects of their routine and tear away from the phone screen.

“We look forward to providing an engaging and highly localised experience for Indian users,” said Gang Ye, co-founder of Garena. “We believe our partnership with Yotta will ensure that our users can enjoy the highest quality gameplay experience and benefit from Yotta’s expertise in protecting and securing Indian user data.”

Free Fire’s rise and fall

Garena Free Fire rose to fame almost overnight when the government issued a ban on PUBG Mobile. Before Krafton remodelled PUBG Mobile and launched it as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Garena Free Fire became the top battle royale in the country. Free Fire amassed over 40 million monthly active users before the government took cognisance of where the company was storing the user data and banned it. According to a TechCrunch report, the ban on Free Fire in India caused Sea’s market cap to diminish by a whopping $16 billion. However, Garena’s other battle royale Free Fire MAX continued to be available and is still playable in India.

Although Garena has managed to bring Free Fire back, it is unclear whether or not it is also on a trial basis like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). Garena, however, is likely to secure long-term approvals from the government for a healthy run of the game. Free Fire is relaunching in India on September 5.

Sony on Wednesday revealed that it’s bumping up the price of the PlayStation Plus annual plans. PS Plus annual plans will go up by as much as $40 (roughly Rs 3,300). The change will go into effect next month. However, those who already own an annual plan won’t have to worry. Let’s take a look at the full details of Sony’s announcement.

PlayStation Plus price hike

Sony is raising the annual subscription prices of three of its PlayStation Plus tiers. This includes the PS Essential plan, PS Plus Extra plan, and PS Plus Premium plan. Following are the new prices.

PlayStation Plus Essential (12-month) – $79.99 (roughly Rs 6,600)

– PlayStation Plus Extra (12-month) – 134.99 (roughly Rs 11,150)

– PlayStation Plus Premium (12-month) – $159.99 (roughly Rs 13,200)

As compared to existing prices, this is an increase of up to Rs $40 (Rs 3,300). The existing prices are $59.99 (roughly Rs 4,950), $99.99 (roughly Rs 8,250), and $119.99 (roughly Rs 9,900), respectively.

The new pricing will be updated on the platform from September 6. It is worth noting that those who are already on an annual subscription plan won’t have to worry as they don’t need to pay for the increased prices until their current annual plan ends. For others, there are still a few days for you to purchase annual plans at the old price.

The price change is likely for everyone including the US, UK, Europe, and Japan. However, there’s no mention of a price hike for the Indian region. Also, there’s nothing related to that on its official India website.

Current PS Plus plans in India

In India, Sony offers three plans PS Essential, PS Extra, and PS Deluxe.

– PlayStation Plus Essential costs Rs 499 monthly and 2,999 annually.

– PlayStation Plus Extra costs Rs 749 monthly and Rs 4,999 annually.

– PlayStation Plus Deluxe is priced at Rs 849 monthly and Rs 5,749 annually.

Sony offers a 7-day trial for the Extra and Deluxe subscription plans. For the unversed, Deluxe is the same as Premium in the global markets, but without the ability to stream PS3 games.

Recently, Microsoft increased the price of Game Pass subscriptions in most regions and Sony’s price increase move seems to be a ripple effect. The Game Pass price hike also affected India, where the price went from Rs 349 per month to Rs 379. For the Game Pass Ultimate, it went from Rs 499 per month to Rs 549 per month. For PC, it’s Rs 349 per month.
