Story Highlights

  • Elon Musk has announced new features for X.
  • X is getting video and voice calling features.
  • X is also getting updates to the notes features.

X (formerly Twitter) update: X (formerly Twitter) is getting a new feature that will enable users to make audio and video calls directly from its platform. The announcement was made by Elon Musk, who in a post on the platform, said that this new feature will works on almost all platforms, which includes iOS, Android, Mac and Windows PCs. In the same post, he also said that X users will not require to save phone numbers as the platform itself will act as what he described as a global address book.

While Musk did say that X’s video and audio calling feature is coming to all platforms, he did not reveal how exactly this feature will work. For example, Instagram also enables users to make audio and video calls from its platform. However, this feature comes with a caveat. Instagram users cannot call just anyone on the photo and video sharing platform. Instead, they can call anyone whom they have accepted a message from or have dropped a message to. This rule, however, does not apply to verified accounts. Also, users can call up to eight people at a time. It remains to be seen if X (formerly Twitter) will follow the same route and let people make voice and video calls to users with whom they have interacted with over Direct Messages or DMs.

X rolls out improvements to Community Notes

In addition to video and audio calling feature, X is also getting an improved Community Notes feature. Twitter, via an update, via its official handle said that Notes on images will now automatically show on posts that contain a matching image. “It’s common for these notes to match on dozens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of posts. Now, you can see how many posts an image note is matching on in the note details,” the post said.

It is worth noting that this update comes shortly after Musk announced a new feature coming to X that will enable all the paid subscribers to post two-hour long videos with 1080p quality or a three-hour long video with a 720p quality on its platform.
